Bull Market Continues

The bull market that drove Vancouver Stock Exchange trading
activity to record levels in 1996 has carried over to 1997.
The volume of shares traded on the VSE during January was 745 million shares, its highest
level since a record 1.2 billion shares traded in the month of May, 1996. VSE volume was
up 48 per cent over the previous month and 15 per cent over January 1996.
January's value of $1.1 billion was 68 per cent higher than December's value and up 65 per
cent over January 1996.
The Composite Index climbed above the 1200 mark for the first time since October 1996 as
it added one per cent to its value during the month to close at 1207.40.
The VSE welcomed two new listings during the month: Hilton Petroleum Ltd. listed on
January 24 and ESM Resources Ltd. listed on January 30.
There was one reverse take-overs during January: Sedna Geotech Inc. completed a reverse
take-over on January 10, 1997. |
