Vancouver, B.C. - On May 26, 1998,
the Vancouver Stock Exchange will proudly celebrate the 10th Anniversary of our
trading system, Vancouver Computerized Trading (VCT). We began the migration to fully
automated trading in May 1988 and completed full implementation on January 29, 1990,
becoming the first exchange in North America to convert from an open-outcry trade floor to
an entirely automated trade execution system.
There are currently 254 VCT workstations in production with
391 registered VCT Traders. VCT workstations are located in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal,
Calgary, Prince George, Richmond and White Rock.
Since final implementation, numerous improvements and upgrades have been made to VCT.
New sophisticated trade monitoring functions have been built into VCT, strengthening its
ability to monitor trading activities and making it one of the most advanced trading
market systems in the world.
VCT has been Year 2000 compliant since inception. Some sub-systems are scheduled for
modification and testing this year to ensure the Exchanges readiness for Year 2000.
In 1997, the VSE was the fourth busiest exchange in North America. VCT executes trades
in less than 1.25 seconds with a system reliability rating of 99.42 per cent.
In May 1990, the VSE received the Canadian Software Systems Award from the Canadian
Information Processing Society recognizing the VCT as a landmark in technological design
and business innovation.
