he Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX) reports a triple record-setting day,
reaching new highs on the Index, the value of trades, and the number of trading
transactions.
The CDNX Index, set at 2000 on November 29, 1999, surpassed the 4000
mark today, closing at 4026.61. The Index has doubled since its launch and has risen 72
per cent this year.
In addition, the value of shares traded on the Exchange today set a
new record of $258 million, surpassing the previous high of $220 million set on February
9, 2000. The number of trading transactions climbed to 52,281, outstripping the record of
49,667, also set on February 9.
Todays market activity was driven by the tech sector as the
CDNX Technology Index posted its largest one-day gain, adding 339.11 points to close the
day at 7147.58.
The top five most active stocks by value of shares traded were all
technology companies: eDispatch.com Wireless Data Inc., up $5.00 at $24.50 on a value of
$25.9 million; followed by Meridex Network Corporation, up $1.95 at $11.45 on $13.5
million; Unique Broadband Systems Inc., down $0.35 to $11.70 on $12.5 million; Cell-Loc
Inc. was down $8.25 at $57.00 on $10.2 million; and, Ecompark Inc. was up $0.71 at $3.75
on $7.4 million.
