Canadian Venture Exchange President and CEO, Bill
Hess, QC will address the 68th Annual Mining Millennium 2000 Prospectors &
Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Trade Show in Toronto this week. Canadas
newest stock market CDNX is a sponsoring participant of the show, the
largest mining event in the country.
Mr. Hess will outline the Exchanges support for junior mining
in a panel session entitled: Canadas New National Junior Stock Market. He
will describe the record setting trading performance that has characterized the new market
each month since its opening and continue the dialogue geared to a streamlined, efficient
financing and regulatory regime for explorers. The panel will be moderated by Maureen
Jensen, TSE director of mining services. Joining Mr. Hess will be John Carson, TSE senior
vice president of market regulation, who will speak on the realignment of the Canadian
capital markets, and Rob Cook, TSE director of market surveillance, who will talk about
TSE disclosure standards and enforcement. The market-focused technical session is
scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 7.
Active at the PDAC show for over a decade, CDNX is also a sponsor of
this years Investors Exchange, which brings mining companies together with the
investment community. The new exchange will showcase its trade show booth among displays
by 200 junior mining companies and presentations by leading investment analysts and junior
company representatives.
In mid-February, CDNX introduced a mining sector index that includes
167 companies in the top 80% of the sectors 924 listings by market cap. This new
index, part of the CDNX family of small cap benchmarks, includes companies involved in
exploration & development, mining and mining sector services. Set at 2000.00 on
November 29, 1999, the mining index had more than doubled by March 3, closing at 4097.83.
