Announces Market Activity for First Six Months of 2000

Six Months Results
The Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX) today
announced strong market performance for the six months ending June 30, 2000. The CDNX
Index closed the period at 3458.67, up 48% from its closing level on January 4. The new
exchanges sector indices posted even higher gains over the six months with the
technology index closing June up 56% at 4376.26, the oil & gas index up 94% at 3652.13
and the mining index up 97% at 4315.59. The CDNX Index reached an all-time high of 4471.84
on March 20.
Average trading volume for the period was 24,474 trades per day,
peaking at 66,751 trades on March 6. Average trading value was $97.6 million per day,
reaching a daily high of $169.9 million on March 7.
Of the 79 new companies listed during the first half of the year, 53
were capital pool companies. There were 11 reverse take-overs during the same period.
Total listings as of June 30 stood at 2,269.
June Results
For the month of June, CDNX recorded a decrease in
trading activity compared to the previous month. The volume of shares traded declined from
877 million shares in May to 849 million shares, off 3 per cent. However, the value of
shares traded rose by 5 per cent, totaling $842 million for June. The CDNX Index close at
3458.67 on June 30 showed an increase of 6 per cent over May. The technology index rose 9 per cent in
June, while the mining index gained 10 per cent and the oil & gas index added 6 per
cent. The total market capitalization for non-TSE interlisted securities as of June 30 was
$22.2 billion.
There were sixteen new listings during June,
including: Intermedia Capital Corp.; WCC Services Inc.; Synx Pharma Inc.; European
Goldfields Limited; WWS Capital Inc.; Sonomax Hearing Healthcare Inc.; Planex Ventures
Ltd.; Medici Mineral Inc.; East Side Capital Inc.; Microtec Corporation; Porpoise Capital
Network Inc.; Computer Modelling Group Ltd.; Destiny Hospitality Ltd.; Head4 Solutions
Inc.; Emercap Ventures Inc.; and, Flukong Enterprise Inc. Additionally, there were three
reverse take-overs (RTO) in June: Dynasty Motorcar Corporation; IP Applications Corp.;
and, QHR Technologies Inc.
