Power Outage Shuts Down CDNX Systems in Vancouver

Calgary, AB — Trading on the Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX) has been suspended, effective 8:40 a.m. PDT, due to a power outage in the Vancouver building where the company’s trading system and other systems are housed.

CDNX, and other tenants at the 609 Granville St. building, experienced a complete power outage at approximately 8:15 a.m. PDT at which time a 30-minute backup system was turned up. When the power did not return in the 30 minutes, the company was forced shut down the trading and other systems to protect the integrity of its data.

All tenants of the building, including CDNX employees, have been evacuated. CDNX has been advised by the building managers and local fire officials that a minor explosion occurred on the 22 floor of the building. Officials are still investigating the problem and CDNX does not currently have an indication of when staff might return to the building. Trading on CDNX will not be resumed today.

CDNX has a business continuity plan that will be considered should the company be unable to commence business in a timely manner.
