Sprint cable cut shuts down CDNX trading system
CALGARY, AB (November 28, 2000)
Trading on the Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX) has been
suspended, effective 10:25 a.m. EST, due to a cable cut in Sprint Canadas network
which provisions access to the exchanges trading system across the country. Sprint
also provides CDNX with a backup network; however, that network also failed.
CDNX noticed a problem with trading at
approximately 10 a.m. EST when the exchange was unable to receive any orders from central
and eastern Canada. Once CDNX established that there was a risk of unfair trading taking
place, it suspended trading.
Sprint rectified the problem and CDNX was able to commence pre-opening
at 12:45 p.m. EST, with full trading resuming at 1:45 p.m. EST.
