Sprint cable cut shuts down CDNX trading system

CALGARY, AB (November 28, 2000)Trading on the Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX) has been suspended, effective 10:25 a.m. EST, due to a cable cut in Sprint Canada’s network which provisions access to the exchange’s trading system across the country. Sprint also provides CDNX with a backup network; however, that network also failed.

CDNX noticed a problem with trading at approximately 10 a.m. EST when the exchange was unable to receive any orders from central and eastern Canada. Once CDNX established that there was a risk of unfair trading taking place, it suspended trading.

Sprint rectified the problem and CDNX was able to commence pre-opening at 12:45 p.m. EST, with full trading resuming at 1:45 p.m. EST.

.

The Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX) was launched in November 1999 with some 2300 listed companies active in the technology, resource, industrial and manufacturing sectors. As the country’s venture capital marketplace, CDNX provides emerging companies with improved access to capital while providing investors with a well-regulated market in which to make venture investments.
