ASE	Alberta Stock Exchange

B
BCSC	British Columbia Securities Commission A provincial government agency responsible for administering and enforcing the Securities Act and the Commodity Contract Act of British Columbia. Its basic mission is to protect the public from fraud and abuse and to ensure that securities markets operate fairly and efficiently.
BCICAC	British Columbia International Commercial Arbitration Centre An arbitration centre established to resolve business disputes that have not been resolved through normal channels. As part of its services, the centre will accept claims up to $50,000 from clients of participating member firms of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada (Pacific Division) and the Vancouver Stock Exchange.

CCDF	Consolidated Canadian Data Feed A high speed transmission of quotations and other market information from the CDNX, TSE, ASE & ME, combined in Toronto then routed to a central hub in the U.S. for dissemination to commercial quotation vendors; a one way data feed; currently sent to an estimated 40,000 terminals in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
CDCC	Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation A limited liability company which serves as a clearing house and guarantor for equity options, bond and index options markets in Canada; owned equally by the TSE and ME.
CDN	Canadian Dealing Network The electronic information system handling approximately 1,000 stocks trading over-the-counter in Ontario; provides computer access to bid and ask quotes, as well as trading volumes from previous day.
CDS	Canadian Depository for Securities Centralized debt and equity securities clearing house for the clearing and settlement of all Canadian stock exchange trades. Provides custodial safekeeping services to its participants.
CEG	Canadian Exchange Group Joint venture of the ME, TSE & CDNX whereby market data is combined into a single feed (See CCDF) for distribution outside Canada.
CIPF	Canadian Investor Protection Fund A fund established to protect customers in the event of the insolvency of a member of any of following Sponsoring Self-Regulatory Organizations (SSROs): the Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto and Alberta Stock Exchanges, the Toronto Futures Exchange and the Investment Dealers Association of Canada.
CLA	Conditional Listing Application Combination of the Listing Agreement and the company's Prospectus, the latter serving as the disclosure document, submitted to the Exchange at the time of listing.
CSA	Canadian Shareowners Association An independent, non-profit association, based in Windsor, Ontario, serving individual investors and investment clubs.
CSI	Canadian Securities Institute The national educational organization of the securities industry sponsored by the Investment Dealers Association of Canada, the Vancouver, Toronto, Alberta, and the Montreal Stock Exchange.
CUSIP	Committee on Uniform Securities Identification Procedures A standard system of securities identification and description that is used in processing and recording securities transactions in North America.

EOP	Exchange Offering Prospectus (EOP) A form of Prospectus which enables the listed company to conduct the prospectus offering through the facilities of a stock exchange rather than issuing them directly to the purchasers thereof and subsequently making an application to have those securities listed for trading on the Exchange.

F
FAS	Financial Administrators Section (of the IDA) A sub-committee of the Investment Dealers Association, comprised of Financial Officers of member firms, which looks at such matters as internal controls, and capital and insurance requirements. Stock exchange representatives attend as observers.
FIBV	Fédération Internationale des Bourses de Valeurs An international federation of stock exchanges. The FIBV's aim is to promote a closer collaboration between the Member Stock Exchanges and Associations of Stock Exchanges, and cooperate with national and international organizations to contribute to the development of securities markets in the best interests of securities issuers and investors. The VSE was admitted in 1991.
FS	Filing Statement A disclosure document submitted by a listed company to outline material changes in its affairs (not for the purpose of a financing).

HSVF	High Speed Vendor Feed The CDNX one-way data feed sold to vendors or large commercial users with in-house computing facilities.

I
IA	International Associate A category of trading participant that allows foreign brokers to trade CDNX-listed stocks on behalf of their clients. An IA can also complete share distributions in its own jurisdiction and participate in underwriting syndicates in BC with approval of the British Columbia Securities Commission.
IDA	Investment Dealers Association of Canada A self-regulatory securities industry organization; its activities focus on the development of a favourable investment climate in Canada.
IPO	Initial Public Offering When a private company issues equity securities from its treasury pursuant to a prospectus for the first time, following one or more issuances of seed capital.
ISG	Intermarket Surveillance Group An association of major U.S. stock exchanges, NASD (U.S.) members, the CDNX, TSE, and ME; shares regulatory information relevant to intermarket violations.

LA	Listing Application The document which a company completes and submits to the Exchange to provide full disclosure on its activities, plans, management and finances at the time of listing; includes the Listing Agreement.
LCDB	Listed Company Database CDNX - designed database that is the source of listed company information for several CDNX publications, the CDNX website and other internal and external reports.

M
MARS	Marketminding & Retrieval System The Vancouver Stock Exchange's own electronic quotation service; provides real time and historic market information to a wide network of terminals.
ME	Montreal Exchange
MJDS	Multi-Jurisdictional Disclosure System A disclosure system that facilitates certain Canadian-U.S. cross-border securities offerings, issuer bids and takeover bids. The system is intended to reduce costly duplication of disclosure requirements and other filings when issuers from one country register securities offerings in the other. Under the rules, eligible cross-border offerings are governed by the disclosure requirements of the home country of the issuer.

NASD	National Association of Securities Dealers Inc. A non-profit self regulatory organization for the over-the-counter securities market in the United States; operates the American unlisted market.
NASDAQ	National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations A U.S. national computerized communications system which facilitates trading in over-the-counter securities; operated by the NASD Inc.
NCI	Non Certificated Issues Dematerialized certificates reflecting ownership on the transfer agents's electronic register. Since March 1994, the majority of CDNX issues are held electronically.

O
OMS	Order Management Systems A trading platform that allows users to trade any stock listed on any stock exchange in the network. The system routes users' orders to a specific or several marketplaces to obtain the best possible price.
OSC	Ontario Securities Commission
OTC	Over-the-Counter The "unlisted" market, maintained by securities dealers, for issues not listed on a stock exchange; trades are generally made over the telephone; there is no OTC market in British Columbia.

P
PP	Private Placement Financing vehicle whereby a listed company sells treasury shares to a small group of sophisticated private buyers or people associated with the company or its principals; distinct from a public distribution.
PREP	Pre-Review Program A program developed by CDNX to review and comment on a company's business plan and on any regulatory concerns or areas of deficiency in meeting minimum requirements. An assessment of the potential to raise the required funds is also provided. If the results of PREP are positive, CDNX will forward the business plan to interested member firms.

R
RMI	Relative Movement Indicator The weighted price indicator for companies with a majority of trading on CDNX.
RO	Rights Offering A short-term privilege granted to shareholders to purchase additional common shares at a stated price (discounted to market) and within a specified time period. Rights of listed companies trade on stock exchanges from the ex-rights date until their expiry.
RR	Registered Representative A salesperson or a broker employed by a securities firm; must be registered with the provincial securities commission and, if employed by a CDNX Member Firm, with CDNX.
RTO	Reverse Take-over A method of listing on a stock exchange whereby a private company acquires or "takes over" the shares of a listed company; sometimes called a "back-door listing".

SEC	Securities & Exchange Commission U.S. federal regulatory body for interstate securities transactions.
SEDAR	System for Electronic Document Analysis and Retrieval A computer system requiring public companies to file documents electronically to a central repository where the filing can then be retrieved by the relevant regulatory agencies and the public.
SIA	Securities Industry Association The trade association representing over 600 securities firms throughout Canada and the United States. Members include banks, brokers, dealers and mutual fund companies.
SIAC	Securities Industry Advisory Committee Canadian organization made up of Chairpersons and Presidents of all SROs. Replaces (JIC) Joint Industry Committee.
SIB	Securities and Investment Board A private body located in London, England which establishes minimum standards for the conduct of British investment businesses; an industry "watchdog" which oversees self-regulatory bodies, such as stock exchanges.
S & P	Standard and Poor's Indices A series of indices published by the Standard & Poor's Corporation which track the performance of various investment instruments in the United States.
SRO	Self-Regulatory Organization

TFE	Toronto Futures Exchange
TSA	The Securities Association A self-regulatory organization based in the U.K.
TSE	Toronto Stock Exchange

V
VCT	Vancouver Computerized Trading An automated trading system designed specifically for the Vancouver Stock Exchange. With terminals in broker's offices around the country, this system replaces the traditional open outcry trade floor and offers faster, more efficient trading and improved market surveillance.
VITAL	Vancouver Interface for Trading Access Links Trading interface designed by CDNX that enables members using electronic trading systems to access VCT directly.
